French Fridays with Dorie – Top Secret Chocolate Mousse

So the election is over everyone – whew! Obviously those who didn’t vote for President Obama are probably upset but I for one am just glad the whole thing is over. I got four political phone calls on Election Day – I’m voting okay, leave me alone! I ate this chocolate mousse shortly before going to my local polling place and it really soothed my frazzled country-in-an-uproar nerves. I don’t think I’ve ever had a mousse before but I feel confident in saying that this one was just right in both texture & flavor. Kinda hard to photograph in an attractive way, but super tasty.

Things that start out this way usually end up delicious – don’t you agree?

Beautiful fluffy egg whites get mixed into deep, dark, bittersweet chocolate with sugar & egg yolks & voila! It’s mousse baby!

This is seriously one of the easiest things I have ever made. I didn’t even have to go to the grocery store for anything and it took like 5 minutes. Plus I got to use some of my fancy glassware that I never seem to bust out for regular stuff….like actual drinks.

In conclusion –Β  buy this book, make this mousse, eat it and heave a huge sigh of relief.

  1. I received so many phone calls about the election I quit answering my phone!
The last photo really shows good detail of your yummy looking chocolate mousse-congrats on a job well done;-)

  2. Your photos are fabulous. I’ve had Chocolate Mousse once and all I could think was, ‘where have you been all my life?’

Yup, glad elections are over. Now, let’s get this country rockin with jobs, etc. πŸ™‚

  3. I’ve made the mousse several times, and was shocked at how easy it was the first time. Didn’t get around to it this week, but that’s okay. I love the glasses that you put yours in. YUM!

  4. πŸ™‚ love the ease of it too! This is easily going on my list of last-minute desserts to make if someone is coming over for dinner since the ingredients are all those that I have a plethora of in stock at all times !!

  5. Maggie, you’re last photograph is fabulous. Why don’t you crop the back bowl out of it and make a Mousse-mas Card for the holidays. I love the look of the texture of it. Well done. And, it looks as tasty as you say it is. I just ordered “Winter of the World” and it will be my “winter” reading. If you’ve not read “Gone Girl”, do. I also am glad the election is over.

  6. I love chocolate mousse! And it was the first time I made one for me too! I am also glad the election is over even though I live in Greece it was kinda big here with the country being in a crisis and all not that it made any difference… πŸ™‚

  7. Looks absolutely perfect! Well done. And I have to say that missing all of the election hoopla is one of my favorite things about living overseas. I mail in my ballot in peace and don’t have to see a single negative campaign ad.

  8. What a great idea – mousse before voting! Alas, had to vote early since I was going to be out of town, so that sequence didn’t work for me, but I’ll have to remember it!!

Your mousse looks wonderful, and so fluffy. Mine wasn’t quite as fantastic, though it was still a big hit. Happy weekend!

  9. I am so happy the election is over too. Hopefully, it’s ONWARD now.
Congrats on your first mousse. Looks like a great success, Maggie!
I second Mary’s recommendation of Gone Girl. I just finished that. Couldn’t put it down. Now I’m reading The Art of Fielding, which also seems good so far (50 pages in).
